Calder is an electoral ward in the metropolitan borough of Calderdale, in West Yorkshire. It takes its name from the River Calder and occupies part of the steep-sided Calder Valley, combining residential streets and former industrial sites set against rolling Pennine fringes.
The area reflects the region’s textile and transport heritage, with stone-built terraces, former mill buildings and rail and canal corridors that shaped local life. Flooding from the river and subsequent regeneration have been notable recent themes, while good commuter links to Halifax and Leeds and proximity to upland countryside keep a mix of urban convenience and outdoor appeal.
