Middlewich is an electoral ward in Cheshire East, sitting on the Cheshire Plain at the meeting of the Rivers Dane and Croco. The area is shaped by a long salt-making history - brine extraction and salterns date back to Roman times - and by its status as a historic canal junction where the Trent and Mersey Canal meets the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, giving much of the ward a strong waterside character.
Today the ward blends light industry and commuter housing with a compact historic centre and an active community life, best seen at the annual Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival that draws visitors to the canalside. Good road links (close to the M6 and within easy reach of Crewe and Manchester) mean the area balances local heritage with modern economic connections.
