Barnton is a village and civil parish just north of Northwich in Cheshire West and Chester, England. It occupies the agricultural fringe of the Weaver valley, lying close to the River Weaver and the canal network; the local landscape and economy have long been influenced by the salt-bearing geology and the 19th-century salt-mining and chemical industries of the area.
Today Barnton feels like a settled commuter village with a strong local identity: there are village shops, pubs, sports clubs and community groups, regular events and green spaces, and easy access for walkers and boaters along the waterways. Many residents travel to nearby centres such as Chester and Manchester for work, while the parish retains a mix of historic buildings and newer housing that reflects its industrial past and rural setting.
