Ince is a small civil parish in Cheshire West and Chester, tucked beside the industrial edge of the Manchester Ship Canal close to Ellesmere Port. Its setting is a striking mix of low-lying marshland and heavy industry: historic agricultural roots gave way in the 20th century to oil refining and petrochemical plants around Stanlow, so the landscape combines salt marsh, nature interest and large industrial complexes.
The local community remains relatively small and outward-looking, with many people commuting to Chester, Ellesmere Port or Liverpool while enjoying the quieter village feel. The parish is notable for that contrast between industrial economy and the wildlife-rich fringes of the Mersey estuary, and for a modest but distinct local identity shaped by both industry and marshland heritage.
