Calstock is a rural parish in Cornwall set along the tidal reaches of the River Tamar, tucked into the steep, wooded slopes of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The riverside village clusters around an old quay and is framed by a dramatic Victorian Calstock Viaduct carrying the Tamar Valley rail line; the location makes it popular with walkers, boaters and anyone after scenic river trips.
Historically the area grew on river trade and mining - copper, tin and later arsenic - leaving a landscape of engine houses, quays and industrial archaeology that now attracts visitors as much as it records the past. Today a small, active community balances tourism, agriculture and commuting, with local pubs, galleries, seasonal events and volunteer groups keeping a strong cultural and social life alongside the parish’s historic buildings.
