The electoral ward centred on Calstock sits on the tidal River Tamar in north‑east Cornwall, following the steep, wooded valley of the Tamar Valley and including settlements such as Gunnislake and several smaller hamlets. The landscape is peppered with reminders of its mining past - quays, lime kilns and a striking 19th‑century railway viaduct - and much of the area falls within the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage designation, making it popular with walkers, boaters and heritage visitors.
Economically the ward relies on a mix of tourism, farming and small local businesses, with a number of residents commuting to Plymouth. Social life is village‑centred, with active community groups, pubs and arts initiatives that celebrate local history and Cornish traditions, creating a landscape valued for both its scenery and its strong sense of place.
