Whitwell is a village and civil parish in the district of Bolsover, in Derbyshire, England. It sits on the rural-urban fringe of north‑eastern Derbyshire, within easy reach of larger centres such as Chesterfield and Sheffield, and close to the rolling countryside that leads towards the Peak District.
Historically the village developed around 19th- and 20th-century quarrying and mining, and remnants of that industrial heritage sit alongside traditional stone terraces and newer commuter housing. Today the local economy is mixed - local shops, pubs and small businesses combine with residents who travel to nearby towns for work - while a lively community life is maintained through clubs, a village hall and seasonal events that celebrate the area’s rural and industrial past.
