Staveley is a small former industrial town in the borough of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England, lying on the banks of the River Rother and close to the restored stretch of the Chesterfield Canal. It sits to the east of Chesterfield and within commuting distance of Sheffield, so it combines a semi-rural riverside setting with easy access to larger urban centres.
The town grew up around coal mining and ironworking during the Industrial Revolution, and that industrial heritage still shapes its character today through former works sites, miners’ welfare organisations and local clubs. In recent years there has been a degree of regeneration with business parks and housing developments, while nearby attractions such as the Barrow Hill Roundhouse and community activities keep a strong local identity and social life.
