Halwill Junction is a small settlement in the district of Torridge in northern Devon, England, set close to the Cornwall border amid rolling farmland and quiet lanes. It originally grew up around a busy railway interchange where several branch lines met, and the arrival and later loss of those lines in the mid‑20th century left platforms, trackbeds and a few railway buildings as lasting local landmarks.
Nowadays the village is a peaceful rural community with an economy centred on agriculture, small businesses and commuters; the disused railway routes are popular with walkers and cyclists and several former railway structures have been repurposed as homes or workshops. There’s a strong local interest in the site’s railway heritage, and its position near market towns and the Cornish coast makes it a handy, understated spot for people exploring the area.
