Hatherleigh is a small market town on the edge of Dartmoor in West Devon, Devon, England, set beside the River Lew. It grew up as a medieval market centre and the town still shows that history in narrow streets, stone cottages and a parish church, while its proximity to open moorland makes it a handy base for walkers and visitors.
Hatherleigh retains a strong agricultural character - its historic cattle market and annual agricultural show remain fixtures - but also supports independent shops, traditional pubs and lively community events such as a summer carnival. The local economy is driven mainly by farming and rural services, with a modest boost from tourism and an active, tight-knit community life.
