Mary Tavy is a small rural parish and village in West Devon, Devon, set on the western edge of Dartmoor in the wooded valley of the River Tavy, a few miles north-west of Tavistock. The landscape mixes granite moorland, reservoirs and river valley, making it popular with walkers, birdwatchers and anyone after quiet countryside scenery.
The area has a strong industrial past – 19th-century tin, copper and arsenic mining left visible earthworks and old mine buildings – but today the community is largely agricultural with a handful of local businesses, a village pub and community events; tourism and outdoor recreation now play an important economic and social role alongside traditional farming. The parish church has medieval origins and the mix of mining heritage and Dartmoor access gives the place a distinctive character.
