Milton Abbas is a small village and civil parish in north Dorset, England, set in the rolling pasture and hedgerow landscape of the Blackmore Vale. It is best known as an unusually complete 18th‑century model village created when Joseph Damer, later Earl of Dorchester, had the medieval settlement moved and rebuilt to improve the outlook for his house and park at Milton Abbey, resulting in the tidy row of thatched cottages, green and pond that give the village its strongly planned, picturesque character.
The parish retains a quiet rural economy based around farming, the estate and modest visitor trade, while the abbey buildings now house Milton Abbey School and attract interest from heritage visitors. Socially it feels like a close‑knit, conservation‑minded community where the historic layout and traditional architecture remain the main local assets.
