Osmington is a small, characterful village in rural Dorset, England, set on rolling chalk downland a few miles north‑east of Weymouth and a short distance inland from the coast at Osmington Mills. The surrounding landscape is typical of south Dorset with hedged lanes, farmland and good walking country, and the village makes a handy base for exploring the nearby Jurassic Coast and sections of the South West Coast Path.
The village is best known for the nearby chalk figure, the Osmington White Horse, carved in 1808 to commemorate King George III’s visits to the area, and for its picturesque cottages and parish church that reflect its long agricultural history. Today the local economy leans on a mix of farming and tourism - B&Bs, pubs and seasonal visitors - while residents keep a small‑community feel with village events and conservation of the landscape and historic features.
