Tarrant Rushton is a small, quiet parish in north Dorset, set in the chalk hills and low meadows of the Tarrant Valley where the River Tarrant threads between a series of tiny villages. Its landscape of arable fields, hedgerows and footpaths makes it typical of rural Dorset and popular for peaceful walks rather than bustling tourism.
The locality is perhaps best known for the wartime airfield, RAF Tarrant Rushton, which played a notable role in airborne operations during the Second World War; remnants of the airfield continue to shape land use and local identity. Today the parish remains sparsely populated, centred on farming and a close-knit community with a scattering of historic buildings and converted agricultural sites.
