Tarrant Crawford is a tiny, largely rural parish in the heart of the Tarrant Valley in north Dorset, England. It lies beside the small River Tarrant where the valley opens onto the floodplain of the River Stour, a landscape of watermeadows, willow-lined streams and rolling chalk country that feels quietly remote yet is within easy reach of Blandford Forum and other market towns.
Despite its modest size the parish has a surprising historical draw: the site of the medieval Tarrant Abbey and a small medieval church with interesting carved stonework and tombs, so it attracts walkers and local-history visitors as well as sustaining a mainly agricultural economy and a very small resident community. The atmosphere is typically Dorset - peaceful, pastoral and centred on landscape and heritage rather than commercial development.
