Winterborne St. Martin, often known locally as Martinstown, is a small village and civil parish in rural Dorset in England. It sits on the chalk downs beside a winterbourne stream that typically flows only after winter rains, which gives the village its name, and lies within easy reach of the county town of Dorchester.
The settlement has a long history stretching back to medieval times, with a parish church, stone cottages and farm buildings characterising the streetscape; its population is only a few hundred. Traditionally agricultural, the local economy now combines farming with commuters working in nearby towns, and community life centres on the village hall, seasonal fĂȘtes and the quiet, scenic rural setting that typifies much of Dorset.
