Battlesbridge is a small riverside village in the borough of Chelmsford, in the county of Essex, England. It sits on the banks of the River Crouch and has long been shaped by the river - historically a crossing point with mills, wharves and boatyards; much of the compact historic core is now a conservation area of brick and timber buildings clustered along the waterfront.
The village is best known for its antiques and specialist shops housed in converted riverside warehouses and former mill buildings, and it attracts visitors at weekends for browsing, riverside walks, a handful of pubs and small independent businesses. Its economy is a mix of tourism, local services and commuters who travel to Chelmsford or London, while the estuarine setting gives it a distinctly rural-at-the-river character.
