Woodberry Down is an electoral ward in Hackney, north‑east London, centred on a large post‑war housing estate and the twin reservoirs that now form the acclaimed Woodberry Wetlands nature reserve. The reservoirs and nearby green spaces give the ward an unusual combination of urban wildlife, open water and city views, with neighbouring areas like Manor House, Stoke Newington and Clissold Park close by.
Originally built as council housing from the 1930s onwards, the area has been transformed by a long‑running regeneration programme that has introduced mixed‑tenure housing, new shops and community facilities; the project has improved local amenities but also sparked debates about affordability and displacement. Today the ward is ethnically diverse and socially mixed, with active community groups, good transport links into central London and a striking contrast between its green, waterside character and the legacy of social housing.
