Squirrels Heath is a suburban ward in the north‑eastern corner of the London Borough of Havering, lying on the outer edge of the Romford commuter belt. It is largely residential, with a mix of inter‑war and post‑war housing, small shopping parades and local schools; the name recalls the old patches of heathland and the main thoroughfare, Squirrels Heath Road, that threads the area. Good road and rail links via nearby stations make central London commutable, while pockets of green space give the ward a quieter, suburban feel.
The area was historically part of Essex before being brought into Greater London in 1965, and community life is centred on local clubs, churches and residents’ associations rather than major cultural institutions. Economically it functions largely as a dormitory suburb with a local retail and service economy, and its political life is expressed through representation on Havering Council and active neighbourhood groups.
