Hatfield is a town in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England, sitting roughly 20 miles north of London. It is well connected by rail with frequent services to King's Cross and lies close to the A1(M), so it functions as a busy commuter town while retaining pockets of older settlement and green space.
The town is notable for the Jacobean Hatfield House and its parkland, where Elizabeth I spent time and learned of her accession, and for its aviation heritage at Hatfield Aerodrome where de Havilland built iconic aircraft; the old factory site later became The Galleria and adjacent business parks. The presence of the University of Hertfordshire brings a strong student and research character, and areas such as Old Hatfield and Hatfield Park give a mix of historic, cultural and suburban economic life.
