Northaw and Cuffley is a largely rural, residential area in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire, in England. Sitting on the northern fringe of the London commuter belt, it combines the small village feel of Northaw with the larger, station-served village of Cuffley, and is surrounded by commons, woodland and green belt countryside that give it a distinctly semi-rural character despite easy rail links into the capital.
Cuffley is perhaps best known for the 1916 downing of a German airship, an episode still recalled locally, while both settlements contain conservation areas, historic churches and old houses that reflect a long rural history. Today the community mixes commuters, families and long-standing residents, supported by village shops, pubs, active local groups and a range of small businesses and leisure pursuits, including equestrian activity, that help sustain the local economy and social life.
