Hamstreet is a sizable village in the civil parish of Orlestone, in the borough of Ashford, Kent, in south‑east England. It sits on the northern edge of the Romney Marsh and expanded notably after the coming of the railway in the mid‑19th century; the local station on the Marshlink line still links the village with Ashford and Hastings. Immediately to the south sits Ham Street Woods, an ancient coppiced woodland and designated nature reserve known for bluebells, butterflies and rich woodland flora.
Today Hamstreet combines a village community with agricultural roots and a commuter role, with local shops, pubs, a primary school and a village hall hosting regular events. Historic and rural character remains strong - you’ll find medieval church connections in nearby Orlestone and a local economy made up of small businesses, farming and people who travel to larger centres such as Ashford or even London for work.
