Whitstable is a compact coastal town on the north coast of Kent, roughly six miles north of Canterbury, sitting on the edge of the Thames Estuary. It’s characterised by shingle beaches, wooden groynes and a working harbour that still gives the town a very maritime feel.
Historically a fishing village famed for its centuries-old oyster fishery, Whitstable now mixes that heritage with a lively arts and food scene - independent shops, galleries, boatyards and an annual oyster festival attract visitors, while tourism and easy rail connections to London help support the local economy and a diverse, community-minded population. Whitstable Castle and the Crab and Winkle cycle route to Canterbury are local highlights for residents and visitors alike.
