Swanley is a town in the district of Sevenoaks in Kent, south‑east England, sitting on the edge of the London commuter belt about 20 miles east of London. It grew rapidly in the late 19th century when the railway arrived, evolving from market gardens and nurseries into a suburban centre with good road links to the M25 and nearby towns.
The town boasts pleasant green spaces such as Swanley Park and still shows traces of its horticultural past, while being close to the North Downs for countryside walks. Today its economy is a mix of local retail, light industry and commuters working in London or neighbouring centres such as Dartford, and it has a typical suburban community with active local clubs and occasional community events.
