Burscough is a small town and civil parish in West Lancashire, in the county of Lancashire, England. It sits on the flat agricultural plain of the Ribble estuary area and is bisected by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, with a notable canal junction close by; the nearby Martin Mere wetland reserve gives the area a strong wildlife and outdoor appeal.
Historically rooted in farming and canal-side trade, Burscough has evolved into a mix of light industry, distribution and commuter housing while retaining a close-knit community feel, local clubs and pubs and a non-league football team. Good road and rail links make travel to cities such as Liverpool and Preston straightforward, and nature tourism around the wetlands continues to be an important local draw.
