Fleetwood is a compact coastal town and civil parish at the mouth of the River Wyre on the Fylde coast of Wyre, Lancashire, England. Laid out as a planned town in the 1830s by Sir Peter Hesketh‑Fleetwood with designs by Decimus Burton, it retains a distinctive grid and several 19th‑century buildings such as the North Euston Hotel. Sitting beside the Irish Sea and overlooking Morecambe Bay, it has long been defined by its port, harbour and maritime outlook, with views across to Blackpool and shipping lanes to the Isle of Man.
Historically a busy fishing and ferry port, the town saw decline in the late 20th century but still keeps a working harbour, fish market and links to offshore energy and leisure boating. Local landmarks, nature reserves on the marshes and nearby Rossall (home to Rossall School) give Fleetwood a mix of maritime industry, birdlife and community heritage, and there have been steady regeneration efforts and cultural projects aimed at celebrating that seafaring identity.
