Methley is a village on the south‑eastern edge of the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. It occupies a pleasant riverside setting close to where the River Aire, River Calder and River Went run nearby, giving plenty of green space, floodplain meadows and popular walking and fishing spots.
Historically the village grew around coal mining and a busy railway junction, and remnants of that industrial past sit alongside older features such as Methley Hall (the former estate) and the medieval St Oswald’s Church. Today Methley has a largely commuter and village community character with local pubs, clubs and volunteer groups maintaining a strong social life, while nature reserves and riverside paths attract visitors from the wider Leeds area.
