Garston is an electoral ward in the south of Liverpool, sitting on the south bank of the River Mersey. It has a strong maritime and industrial character thanks to the docks and freight facilities clustered along the waterfront, and sits close to transport hubs including Liverpool John Lennon Airport and major road and rail links that connect the area to the city and wider Merseyside.
Historically a separate village that expanded in the 19th century with the growth of ports and railways, Garston today is a mixed residential and commercial area with Victorian terraces, later public housing and pockets of newer development. There’s a noticeable community identity and ongoing regeneration activity aimed at modernising industrial sites, supporting local shops and improving riverside access while preserving the neighbourhood’s maritime heritage.
