Speke sits on the south‑eastern fringe of Liverpool, overlooking the estuary of the River Mersey, with Liverpool John Lennon Airport cutting a prominent figure on its eastern edge. The ward is a mix of 1930s and post‑war planned housing, pockets of green space and large industrial and logistics areas, so it often feels both residential and working‑land at the same time.
Once a small village and estate landscape, the area is best known historically for the Tudor manor Speke Hall, while more recent decades have been shaped by aviation, light industry and waves of regeneration. Community projects, new housing and employment initiatives continue to try to strengthen local services and civic life, giving the area a distinct identity despite ongoing economic challenges.
