Longsight

Longsight is an inner‑city neighbourhood just south‑east of Manchester city centre, sandwiched between Rusholme, Fallowfield and Levenshulme. The area is characterised by Victorian red‑brick terraces alongside pockets of 20th‑century council housing, with a busy local high street running along Stockport Road where small shops, markets and takeaways serve a dense residential population.

The community is notably multicultural, with strong South Asian and Afro‑Caribbean presences and active faith centres and community groups; the nearby Wilmslow Road and its famous Curry Mile sit within easy reach. Like many inner‑city areas it has faced economic challenges and regeneration pressures, but maintains a lively local culture, practical commuter links into Manchester and a tradition of grassroots organisations working on housing, education and enterprise.
