North Pickenham is a small rural village set in the heart of the Brecks on the western edge of Breckland district in Norfolk, England. The surrounding landscape is characteristically sandy and pine-clad, with large arable fields and pockets of heathland giving it a distinct feel from the wetter east of the county; the village sits within easy reach of market towns such as Swaffham, making it quietly well connected despite its rural character.
Historically the settlement grew from agricultural roots and the wider area is marked by 20th‑century military heritage: the nearby RAF North Pickenham airfield played a role in wartime and Cold War operations and its large concrete areas have since been repurposed in various ways. Today the local economy remains dominated by farming, with a close-knit village community, village hall and church at the centre of social life and a modest mix of small businesses and commuters to larger towns.
