Rackheath is a small rural parish and village in the district of Broadland, on the north‑eastern fringe of Norwich in Norfolk, England. Set close to the low‑lying wetlands of the Norfolk Broads, it combines arable farmland, patches of heath and the large flat expanse of a former airfield, giving the area an open, landscape‑rich character with easy access to the city and to rivers and nature reserves nearby.
Historically the airfield and wartime associations remain part of the local story, while contemporary life is a mix of agriculture, small businesses and commuting into Norwich. Community activity centres on village facilities and conservation groups, and in recent years Rackheath has been at the heart of debates over housing and redevelopment proposals for the airfield site, reflecting wider tensions between growth, landscape protection and wildlife on the Broads’ edge.
