Lowestoft is a coastal town in the district of East Suffolk, in the county of Suffolk, England. Sitting on the edge of the North Sea, it contains the UK’s most easterly point at Ness Point and is split by Lake Lothing, with the broad waters of Oulton Broad just inland, giving a distinctive mix of seaside, estuary and inland water landscapes.
Historically known for its fishing and herring-fishing fleets and maritime industries, Lowestoft still carries a strong seafaring identity alongside holiday beaches and a small but active cultural scene. Economic change has seen traditional shipbuilding and fishing decline while the port, light industry and projects supporting the offshore wind sector play a growing role, and local regeneration efforts aim to revive the seafront and town centre.
