Brancaster is a small coastal village in King's Lynn and West Norfolk, Norfolk, England, sitting on the north Norfolk coast and looking out over The Wash. The parish is notable for wide sandy beaches, dune systems and extensive salt marshes, and lies close to the nature reserve on Scolt Head Island; the shoreline is part of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and attracts walkers, birdwatchers and sailors who launch from the sheltered harbour at Brancaster Staithe.
There is a long history here - the remains of the Roman fort at Branodunum attest to early settlement - and today the village mixes a strong maritime and fishing culture with seasonal tourism, seafood-focused pubs and cafes, and conservation-minded land use. Local livelihoods still include mussel and cockle gathering, while the community also faces modern challenges such as coastal erosion and sea-defence management.
