Huttons Ambo is a small civil parish in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, made up principally of the two villages of High Hutton and Low Hutton – the “Ambo” being the old Latin for “both”. It sits in the flat, fertile landscape of the Vale of Pickering, a short drive from market towns such as Malton and within easy commuting distance of York, so the setting mixes traditional arable and pasture farming with people who work in nearby centres.
The area has medieval roots and a quietly historic feel, with a small, close-knit population and the kind of village life that revolves around local events and parish affairs. Its rural location also gives good access to countryside walking and the nearby rolling countryside of the Howardian Hills, making it typical of the quieter rural communities across North Yorkshire.
