Nun Monkton is a small riverside village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, set on the north bank of the River Ouse a few miles west of York. Its landscape is typical of the Ouse valley with riverside meadows, historic stone buildings and quiet lanes, making it popular for walks and wildlife watching rather than heavy tourism.
The village takes its name from a Benedictine nunnery founded in the Middle Ages and later dissolved in the 16th century, and you can still see a compact historic core with a notable parish church and several listed buildings. Traditionally an agricultural and river‑linked economy, today Nun Monkton is largely a small, close‑knit rural community with some commuters, country houses and occasional village events that draw on its long local history.
