Staintondale is a small rural parish in North Yorkshire, sitting on the southern fringe of the North York Moors and a few miles north of Scarborough. The area is characterised by moorland, rolling pasture and wooded valleys popular with walkers and birdwatchers, and there are still visible reminders of the old Scarborough to Whitby railway that once linked the coast.
Locally the economy remains largely agricultural, supplemented by holiday cottages and walking tourism, while social life has the quiet, close-knit feel of a North Yorkshire village with small community events and a village hall that help maintain local traditions.
