Tadcaster is a compact market town in North Yorkshire, England, sitting on the banks of the River Wharfe roughly halfway between York and Leeds. Its roots go back to Roman times when it was known as Calcaria - a nod to the local limestone that has shaped both the landscape and the town’s industry.
Today the town is best known for its long brewing heritage and a cluster of historic breweries, as well as a traditional market, riverside walks and a tight-knit community feel. Local economy still leans on brewing and stone-related trades, and the town’s picturesque streets, old bridge and flood-recovery efforts following the 2015 floods are often mentioned as part of its recent story.
