Hexhamshire is a quietly rural parish in Northumberland, immediately south of the market town of Hexham. Much of the area is rolling pastoral farmland and upland moorland, including Hexhamshire Common, with woodlands and rounded hills that make it popular for walking, birdwatching and other outdoor pursuits.
Historically the area had an unusual administrative status tied to the bishops of Durham, which has left a distinctive local identity; today the economy is largely agricultural with some forestry and small rural enterprises, and a small, close‑knit community of long‑standing farming families alongside commuters. Its situation near the Tyne valley and within easy reach of Hadrian's Wall and the Northumberland National Park adds to its appeal for visitors and residents alike.
