Eakring is a small, rural ward in the Mansfield district of Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands of England. It sits among rolling farmland and pockets of broadleaved woodland and keeps a village atmosphere, with a parish church, village hall and a mix of traditional cottages and working farms rather than dense urban housing.
The ward is perhaps best known for the surprising wartime chapter in its history: the discovery of an onshore oilfield on the eve of the Second World War, which was developed discreetly and became an important local wartime resource. Today the local economy remains largely agricultural with a number of residents commuting to nearby towns, while community life revolves around local events, conservation efforts and the wider Sherwood Forest countryside that frames much of the area’s character.
