Chadderton is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, sitting on the fringe of the Pennine foothills roughly seven miles north‑east of Manchester city centre. It has a largely suburban feel with pockets of older terraced streets from its industrial past and some fringe green spaces, giving a mix of urban and semi‑rural character.
Historically the town grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution as a centre for cotton mills and related industries, leaving a legacy of former mill buildings and a strong working‑class identity. Today much of the local economy is service and commuter‑oriented, with ongoing regeneration, community groups and landmarks such as the surviving Foxdenton Hall and park that reflect Chadderton’s longer history. Transport links by road and frequent buses connect it readily to Oldham, Manchester and nearby towns.
