Coldhurst sits immediately north of Oldham town centre in Greater Manchester, an inner‑urban area shaped by the cotton‑mill boom with many Victorian terraces and former mill sites marking its streetscape. Its compact, working‑class character contrasts with nearby suburban neighbourhoods and reflects a clear industrial heritage in the layout and building stock.
Today the area has a diverse population with a significant South Asian community, a mixture of private and social housing, and a local economy made up mainly of small shops, services and light industry. Like much of post‑industrial northern England it faces social and economic challenges, but there are active community groups and ongoing regeneration efforts aimed at improving employment, housing and public spaces while drawing on a strong local identity.
