The small rural communities of Stonesfield and Tackley sit in West Oxfordshire, in the rolling limestone countryside of Oxfordshire on the edge of the Cotswolds in England. The area is characterised by stone-built cottages, farmland and woods; Stonesfield is especially associated with historic quarries and the local "Stonesfield slate", a Jurassic limestone that supplied roofing material and has yielded notable fossils.
Both villages retain historic cores with parish churches, village halls and pubs and an active community life of clubs and events. The local economy remains largely agricultural with small businesses and commuters attracted by proximity to Oxford; Tackley has a railway station on the Cotswold Line with regular services towards Oxford and Banbury, making the area popular for people seeking rural living within easy reach of the city.
