Carterton

Carterton is a market town in West Oxfordshire, in the county of Oxfordshire, England. It sits on the edge of rolling farmland with the Cotswolds not far to the south and is to the west of Oxford, close to the market town of Witney. The town’s modern layout and growth are visible in a mix of post‑war housing estates and more recent developments.

The town’s character and economy are strongly shaped by the nearby RAF Brize Norton, which is the area’s biggest employer and brings a transient, service‑family population; local retail, light industry and services have grown up around that link. Historically a small rural settlement, Carterton expanded rapidly after the Second World War, and today has local schools, sports clubs and community groups that reflect a relatively young, busy population while still offering easy access to the countryside and Cotswold recreation.
