Drake ward sits in central Plymouth, taking in parts of the waterfront and city centre and borrowing its name from Sir Francis Drake. The area is shaped by maritime history - you’ll find cobbled streets on the Barbican, the open promenade of The Hoe and the strong naval and dockland heritage that feeds local identity and tourism.
Economically and socially the ward is mixed: there’s a blend of long‑standing communities, students from the University of Plymouth, hospitality and retail serving visitors, alongside pockets of regeneration such as around the old dockyards and Royal William Yard. That combination of history, redevelopment and a lively city‑centre feel makes it a notable part of Plymouth.
