Maltby is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. Historically it was a coal‑mining community centred on Maltby Main Colliery, which shaped much of the town’s growth until its closure in 2013; today the town sits within easy reach of Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield, with a mix of residential areas and nearby green countryside.
Maltby retains a strong local identity - a medieval parish church, St Bartholomew's Church, survives alongside miners’ terraces and later housing, and community institutions such as Maltby Academy and local football clubs keep social life active. Since the pit closed the local economy has diversified towards light industry, retail and commuting, while community events and clubs help preserve a distinct town character.
