Thurcroft is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, situated in South Yorkshire. It sits on gently undulating land on the eastern edge of the borough and, though still essentially a village, it functions as a local hub with shops, a primary school and sports and social clubs that serve surrounding settlements.
The village grew rapidly in the early 20th century around coal mining on the South Yorkshire coalfield, and that industrial heritage still shapes local identity – from memorials to community organisations and the pattern of streets and housing. Since the pits closed the area has become more mixed economically, with commuters, local small businesses and active community groups maintaining a strong sense of place.
