Birkdale is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton on the north‑west coast of England, immediately south of Southport. It combines a long stretch of promenade and dunes with largely Victorian and Edwardian residential districts, and its compact high street is known for independent shops, cafés and a village feel.
The area is perhaps best known for Royal Birkdale, the famous links course that brings international attention and tourism during major golf championships. Economically and socially it reads as an affluent commuter suburb with good rail connections into Liverpool, active local clubs and conservation-minded green spaces rather than heavy industry.
