Meols is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton on the coast of Merseyside, forming part of the suburban fringes of Southport. As a ward it elects councillors to Sefton Council and covers a largely residential stretch of coastline with beaches, promenades and small pockets of dunes that speak to its long coastal identity.
The area mixes Victorian and 20th‑century housing with local independent shops, cafés and community facilities, and its economy is largely local services and commuter links into Liverpool. The name itself reflects the coastal setting, derived from Old Norse for sandbanks, and the ward benefits from nearby green spaces and coastal wildlife that make it popular with families and retirees as well as people working in the wider Liverpool city region.
