Market Drayton is a historic market town in north Shropshire, sitting on the banks of the River Tern and close to the border with Cheshire. Its compact centre has a wealth of timber‑framed and Georgian buildings and a market tradition that goes back centuries, giving the town a strong sense of local identity and heritage.
Locally it’s best known as the “gingerbread” town thanks to a long baking tradition, and the economy still leans heavily on food production alongside agriculture and independent shops. There’s a lively community life with regular markets, festivals and countryside walking nearby, and easy road links to larger centres such as Telford and Shrewsbury for wider services.
